Guide

Share an app

Share a private app with specific people by email — or flip it public and send the vanity URL. Invitees who aren't on Ellivate get a signup link that drops them into your app on first load.

The fast path

  1. From the dashboard, open the app you want to share.
  2. Click Share in the top-right.
  3. Paste one or more email addresses into the share dialog (comma-separated, semicolon-separated, space-separated, or one per line — all accepted).
  4. Pick a data mode (see below).
  5. Click Share. Invitees get access immediately if they're on Ellivate, or a signup link if they're not.

Data modes — choose one

Join owner's data

Everyone shares the same dataset. You and your invitees see the same shared: keys, edit the same list, see each other's updates.

Use when: household grocery lists, team retrospectives, shared reading clubs. The app is a collaboration.

Own copy

Each invitee gets their own share group — just them and you. Your data stays yours; their data stays theirs. The dashboard lets you see each invitee's data separately if you want.

Use when: a trip planner where each friend fills in their own trip. A habit tracker you're distributing to friends. Single-user tools that multiple people might want.

What the invitee sees

If they're already on Ellivate

The app appears in their dashboard on their next load. If they're signed in when you share, a refresh shows it immediately. No email required; no click-to-claim step.

If they're not on Ellivate yet

Ellivate emails them an invite from invites@ellivate.ai — subject “@your-username invited you to My App on Ellivate.” The email leads with an App Store link (the iOS app is the best mini-app experience) and a web link as the fallback.

When they tap through:

  • They land on a page like "@your-username invited you to My App on Ellivate. Sign up with [email] and it'll be in your dashboard."
  • They sign up with the email you invited.
  • On their first dashboard load, the app is already there and you get a confirmation email letting you know they joined.

Texting or DMing the link

The share dialog also shows the invite URL alongside the email status — useful when you'd rather text or DM the link instead of (or in addition to) waiting for the email. Click the copy icon to grab it.

Hey — I built a little thing on Ellivate. Tap this to open it (you can sign up with your email on the next screen): app.ellivate.ai/invite/abc123

Making an app public

For broader sharing, flip the app to public from the app detail page:

  • Public + gated — the app appears on your profile at ellivate.ai/u/<you>, but visitors still need to sign in to open it.
  • Public + open — the app is reachable by anyone with the URL, no sign-in required. Good for demos.

The canonical share URL for public apps is <you>.ellivate.ai/<app-slug>. Paste that anywhere — it works.

Revoking access

From the share dialog, find the invitee in the list and click Remove. They lose access on their next app open. If you ever re-add them, their previous data reconnects.
